No canteen action

FARM minister, Nick Brown, has refused to take action to ensure that caterers supplying MAFF canteens use British pork and bacon.

Responding to a letter from Conservative MP Michael Jack, Mr Brown said: "As far as the 14 canteens for MAFF staff and its agencies are concerned, these are run by contracted caterers whose managers make all decisions in relation to the produce used in them.

"These are profit making companies and it would be wrong for us to interfere in their profit making decisions. We cannot, therefore, specify to them how to source their products." &#42
