Nominate your No 1 keeper…

WHO will be the FARMERS WEEKLY/CLA Game Fair Gamekeeper of the Year ? If you know of someone deserving this prestigious title, nominate them without delay.

This award seeks to highlight the positive contribution gamekeepers make to the countryside. We are looking for the person whose keepering best benefits the land he/she manages for country sports and wildlife – could that keeper be you or someone you know?

Gary Walker, a single-handed keeper from Caradoc, Sellack, Herefords, won the award last year. A true keeper for today, he considered the implications for wildlife in every facet of his job while producing some excellent sport for him employer. He is the calibre of keeper we are looking for – one who can show that conservation and shooting really do go hand in hand.

We welcome nominations from anyone who knows of a gamekeeper – young or old, male or female – who is a credit to his/her calling. Keepers who were put forward last year are eligible for renomination for the award if their details are resubmitted.

How to nominate

To nominate a gamekeeper for this award, simply send us written details about the gamekeeper and why he/she should be considered for this award. Tell us about the size and type of shoot, how the keeper has contributed to the successful running of it and over what period; how his work has benefitted non-game species and any details about the keeper that makes him a success at his job. Please supply a contact telephone number.

After an initial judging of the nominations as they are received, short-listed gamekeepers will be visited on site during May by a panel of judges representing FARMERS WEEKLY, the CLA Game Fair, British Association for Shooting and Conservation, and the National Gamekeepers Organisation.

The award is also supported by the Country Land and Business Association and the Scottish Landowners Fede-ration.
