North-west farm tourism gets online boost

TWO tourist boards in Cumbria have developed a new website aimed at helping farmers to diversify into farm tourism.

Following one of the most difficult years in recent times, more and more farmers are looking to tap into other sources of income.

The website, designed by the Cumbria and North-West tourist boards, is aimed at giving advice on how to branch out into farm tourism, while attracting visitors back into the countryside after the devastating effect of foot-and-mouth.

It includes tips for those starting out, legal and planning advice, and information on advertising and funding for a range of projects, from barn coversions to tea rooms.
