NZ lamb men in fight with USA

THE New Zealand meat industry is to attempt to overturn a ruling by the US Trade Commission that threatens the future of the countrys NZ$100m (£35m) lamb exports to the United States.

The commission upheld a complaint by US lamb producers that imports were threatening and injuring their livelihoods. Local prices were said to be undercut by as much as 70%.

New Zealand has argued that its industry is more competitive.

A final decision on the ruling will be taken by President Clinton next month.
