OILSEED rape growers in England face a reduction of £100 per hectare in this seasons area payment, claims the Home-Grown Cereals Authority.

Based on the European Commissions latest oilseed area forecast, HGCA analysts have calculated that English oilseed payments could fall towards £280/ ha.

At this level, area payments would be £25 below the set-aside payment and £185 below the area payment for linseed.

The HGCA calculation assumes a price penalty similar to last year. But if area penalties are carried forward into next year, oilseed payments during the coming season could fall even further.

Meanwhile, new-crop delivered UK rape prices gained £3.50 to £153/ tonne on reports of low yields from the European harvest which is now underway.
