THE HERALD reviews Henry Murdochs bid to become vice-president of the National Farmers Union of Scotland.
The current president of the Ayr area executive, he farms 161ha (400 acres) with 100 suckler cows, 300 breeding ewes and about 100 acres of cereals.
He is seen as an individual who could oversee a breakthrough in the stalemate which has existed for years on tenancy law.
His vision for the future is of the union helping farmers to face the future with confidence. He sees this being achieved through a partnership with the government, based on securing fair trading conditions rather than hand-outs.
