Organic milk may be ‘healthier’
ORGANIC MILK has higher levels of Vitamin E, antioxidants and Omega 3 fatty acids than non-organic, according to EU research.
A study found that organically reared cows, which eat high levels of fresh grass, clover pasture and grass clover silage, produced milk with on average 50% more Vitamin E.
Their milk also contained 75% more beta carotene and two to three times more of the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthine than found in non-organic milk.
The results were presented at the Soil Association‘s annual conference in Newcastle on Friday (Jan 7).
Beta carotene and antioxidants are recognised as an important part of a healthy diet.
