ESSEX-based pig processor Cheale Meats has bought out its East Anglian rival EE Pilgrims and Son in a move to strengthen both companies positions within the European pig processing market.

The deal comes in to immediate effect, with Norfolk-based Pilgrims becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Cheale Meats.

The move makes Cheale Meats the largest cull sow buyer in the country, but according to Raymond Pilgrim, its business as usual with his former company, maintaining the same contracts, staff and management for the foreseeable future.

Paul Cheale agreed that all contracts with suppliers would be honoured and the move strengthened both processors.
