Potato consumption down
POTATO consumption has dropped over the last year, according to the British Potato Council.
There were 5.1 million tonnes consumed in 1998/99 – 1m less than in 1996/97.
But The Guardian discerns a resurgence in consumption by foodies looking for some of the more exotic regional varieties.
