Producers take their beef to London
ORGANISERS of the GB (Great Beef) campaign took their petition to London this week, promoting it with a an event at the Tower.
The campaign was started last May by two non-farmers in Somerset, following the suicide of a beef-farmer friend. They have been collecting signatures from the public on a petition to the European Parliament calling for the beef export ban to be lifted.
The petition reads:
- “We the undersigned, having to watch in utter amazement the completely unjust British Beef Ban, demand action forthwith. The conditions Europe imposed have been met, our beef is now proven to be the safest in the world. Its time to end the plight of our farmers and give them back access to the world markets. European wheels need to turn NOW! We the people of Great Britain have had enough.”
Among those who will parachute into Brussels to deliver the petition in late November will be south west NFU staff member Emma Robson and Devon NFU deputy chairman Richard Haddock.
