Project looks at new incomes for farmers

A PROJECT to develop alternative sources of income for farmers has been launched in the Borders, reports The Scotsman.

The Borders Foundation for Rural Sustainability received initial funding of £50,000 to identify potential ways of diversifying away from agriculture.

The initiative will focus on sporting interests, rural tourism and recreational activities which benefit the landscape and ecological fabric of the area.

Consultants from the Scottish Agricultural College are assisting in the project.
