Protestors destroy GM sugar beet
ENVIRONMENTAL protestors have destroyed plots of genetically modified (GM) sugar beet at Britains premier arable crops show.
Members of the eco-activist group Genetix Snowball infiltrated Cereals 99 in Hertfordshire yesterday (Wednesday).
They ripped up demonstration plots of Monsantos Roundup Ready sugar beet at Vine Farm, Wendy, near Royston.
John Macleod, the director of the National Institute of Agricultural Botany, said such actions were “acts of mindless vandalism”.
The event is organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of England, the Home Grown Cereals Authority, the ADAS farm advisory company and the East of England Agricultural Society.
