Demand has soared in recent years not only from their use as Halloween lanterns but also by their increasing use as a vegetable.

Peter Dawson, managing director of Tozer Seeds of Cobham, Surrey, a company which breeds 70 varieties of pumpkin, said there would enough to meet consumer demand.
