Recommended List changes welcomed
SACS David Cranstoun has welcomed the HGCA reform of the recommended list system, saying it could give rise to a new style of list, offering growers more choice.
"In the past, varieties had to fit the model, rather like a Miss World contest. Now, the aim is to vary that model according to the needs that develop with time," he says.
Growers and end-users needs should receive more weight, he adds. "That is the most important point. No longer is it the testers who make the decisions, it will be the beneficiaries." *
