Record trading year for OLMC

INCREASING demand for organic meat and rapidly growing livestock producer numbers have led the Organic Livestock Marketing Co-operative to expand and relocate its commercial trading operations to Anglia Quality Meat in Royston, Herts.

OLMC has enjoyed a record trading year, with its membership, which supplies over 40% of UK organic beef and lamb, doubling to almost 300 producers. This has created a need for a more comprehensive infrastructure to support the co-ops day-to-day operations, says managing director, Ralph Human.

With over 40 years experience in livestock trading, AQM will be responsible for all everyday administration and marketing from Jan 1. This will allow OLMC to concentrate on expanding into new markets, says Mr Human.

"The organic sector is very fragmented, with a less-than-professional image. We want to liaise with other groups across the country to form a better-structured market, and prove that the British organic meat trade is commercially-minded and means business." &#42
