Records topple at Portadown

AUCTIONEER Tom Clarke described demand for Limousin cattle as at "fever pitch" after records were broken in front of a capacity crowd at the breed societys sale at Portadown.

"Buyers just could not get enough bulls and females," said Mr Clarke after a centre record of 4900gns was paid for John and Samantha Allens Derg Nero, a Grange Inca son from their herd at Strabane. Buyer was Mr Fleming, Omagh.

Ashmore Neptune, the first bull by the French sire Gaguss to be offered to Northern Ireland breeders, made 4200gns. He was consigned by Robert Campbell, Strabane and bought by Mr Brady, Enniskillen.

Ken Veitchs bull Oxtown Ned, a Mereside Filipo son, stood champion and made 3400gns. Females peaked at 2000gns given for a heifer from Jim Quail, Banbridge. She was by Goldies Gigolo and in-calf to Gagus. (Automart) &#42
