Renewed bid for pig aid
SCOTTISH rural affairs minister Ross Finnie has come under pressure to come up with help for the pig sector.
This follows reports that producers in Ireland and France have been given support.
The Irish Republic is reported to have received a £1 million aid package to offset difficulties caused by the closure of a processing plant.
There are also reports that French farmers are to get a package worth £13.5m.
Mr Finnie has always insisted that he is unable to obtain extra funding because he is bound by European Commission rules which prohibit individual states giving special aid to their producers.
