Research should be whole-animal

RESEARCH should concentrate on whole animal studies, rather than just one aspect of production.

Nottinghams Prof Lamming said developments in one segment of animal production required analysis of other segments.

"For example, improved performance though selection of better genes implicates increased nutrient demand and health and welfare considerations. That is why we need research grants for whole-animal studies."
