Reviving beef exports won’t be easy, warns Brown
BRITAINS farmers could be exporting beef again by next spring – but it wont be easy, warned agriculture minister Nick Brown yesterday (Monday).
Speaking during a tour of the West Country, Mr Brown said he hoped that European Union agriculture ministers would approve a proposal for the lifting of the ban at a meeting on 22-23 November in Brussels.
But, he said, “I am not going to pretend that [reviving the export market] would be easy. There is a surplus of beef in Western Europe at the minute, so we are going to have to fight very, very hard to get back into those markets that we have lost, but I am confident we can do it.”
