Root fly product move deferred

PLANS to withdraw approval for the use of Birlane 24 to protect swedes and turnips from root fly larvae have been deferred until next year.

NFU president Ben Gill welcomed MAFFs decision, saying it removed growers fears that the off-label approval would end at a key point during the cultivation of this years crop.

Deferral would also give the Horticulture Development Council time to generate the necessary data to support a new application for off-label approval, backed by the assurance of a longer withdrawal period, Mr Gill added.
