Rural speed limit may be 20mph
THE government has given its strongest signal so far that new speed limits will be introduced in rural areas to try to improve road safety.
Beverley Hughes, a transport minister, said that the forthcoming Road Safety Strategy would have “specific proposals for speed in rural areas”.
Safety campaigners have urged the government to reduce the present limit of 30mph in villages.
