SAC integrates sheep and woodland

THE Scottish Agricultural College is creating a traditional woodland at its Hill & Mountain Research Centre at Crianlarich, reports The Herald.

Several thousand hectares of native trees are being planted under the Forestry Commissions Woodland Grant Scheme.

The project is unique in its plan to integrate sheep production within the wood.

Farmers can obtain an annual management grant of £60 per hectare for up to 40 hectares (98.8 acres) of hill land, in addition to the Woodland Grant scheme.
