Scientists investigate funky chickens

SERENADING chickens with different styles of music to see if it makes them grow faster and boost their egg production will become the focus of a new study.

Scientists at Roslin Institute, where Dolly the cloned sheep was created, are investigating the effect of music on chickens in a National Farmers Union (NFU) sponsored project.

Scientists aim to finally settle claims from farmers who swear chickens love music. Survey forms were distributed to farmers at the national Pig and Poultry Fairasking them about their chicken and music policies and how it affected their birds.

Charles Bourns, chairman of the NFU poultrymeat committee, said he believed the radio soothed his own chickens.
