Scientists’ morale hit as BSE crisis broke
SCIENTISTS from the Neuropathogenesis Unit, in Edinburgh, complained to the inquiry into BSE the crisis yesterday that financial constraints and an audit of its performance in 1988 had threatened to disrupt research into similar diseases.
They said they faced the suggestion that the unit could be relocated to the Institute for Animal Health at Compton, Berkshire, which hit morale.
This threat came just as their research was becoming vital to combating the epidemic, they told the inquiry.
