Scotlands marts face water burden
SCOTLANDS marts face another commercial pressure – extra costs following the decision of the water authorities to re-assess their disposal charges.
The Herald reports that the North of Scotland Water Authority wants to increase the charge at United Auctions mart in Perth from £24,000 to £140,000 by 2004.
Another company facing a water problem is John Swan & Sons which claims it faces ever-increasing bills for effluent treatment at its St Boswells mart.
The paper also reports on marts facing financial problems from the high level of rates charged by councils.
