Scotland’s oldest co-op nears century

SCOTLANDS oldest farmers co-operative, Tarff Valley, which is four years away from celebrating its centenary, is profiled in The Herald today (Monday).

Turnover has now reached £10.5 million and profit £221,000 in the co-operative which covers the whole of Dumfries and Galloway from its headquarters in Ringford.

The group boasts a membership of 650 farmers/owners, a total of 1250 customers and a staff of 29.

The co-op, which paid an interest rate of 6.75% to members last year, is investing in a new feed store and conveyor.

It is also buying a blending plant and machinery, storage facilities and computer equipment and training.
