Scots assurance schemes to share resources

SCOTLANDS various farm assurance schemes are moving to a single inspectorate and administration.

A Scottish Office grant of £35,000 is funding a feasibility study of much closer integration involving the schemes for beef, lamb, pigs, cereals, milk, and trout.

The study will be conducted for Scottish Food Quality Certification, the umbrella organisation for the assurance schemes.

The grant was announced on Monday by SFQC managing director Peter Brown, during a conference in Perth organised by Scottish Quality Cereals.

Mr Brown said there was room for closer integration in administration and inspections.

But he did not think the outcome would be a single, all-embracing farm assurance scheme for Scotland.
