SCOTTISH co-op Central Farmers has linked with two other groups to operate a grain pool for wheat and feed barley this harvest.

Central is joining GrainCo, the Newcastle-based trading operation owned jointly by co-ops Farmway and Tynegrain.

"Our aim is to bring members a better-than-average price in what has become an extremely volatile market. In the past six years, wheat prices have ranged from £68 to £150/t and the variation in a season has been more than £40," said Centrals Jeremy Saunders. &#42
