Scots farmers take fight to Labour conference
THE Scottish National Farmers Union is planning to take its fight about the plight of the industry to the Labour Partys annual conference in Blackpool next month.
The protest will be demanding that the Government does more to “Keep Britain Farming”.
The move comes as hard evidence emerged of the industrys difficult position. Scottish farmings bank overdraft was a record £1.064 billion. This was £98m more than at the previous comparable period last year – an increase of 5.7%.
Scottish Office figures show that the peak year for bank lending was £1.6bn in 1996.
