Scots land reformers argue for Crown

SCOTTISH land reform campaigners argued for the retention of the Crown as ultimate guardian of their land in Scotland, before a government committee yesterday.

Reformers said sweeping away the Crowns theoretical sovereignty over the land could result in a US-style system of “absolute” ownership.

They say this would be a disaster in terms of the public interest and the ability to legislate for the common good.

The argument was disputed by Professor Robert Rennie of the Law Society of Scotland.
