Scots wages board backs two-stage rise

THE Scottish Agricultural Wages Board proposed a two-stage increase totalling 2.5% for farm workers next year. The first 1% would be payable from 1 January and the balance from 1 April.

The new national minimum wage would be £4.26 an hour from 1 January and £4.33 from April.

A wages board committee is to consider the implications of the working time regulations, which will provide for a 48-hour week, an 11-hour break between periods at work and one rest period of 24 hours a week – or 48 hours over a two-week period.
