Scottish grants scheme in trouble

SCOTLANDS agricultural business incentive scheme (ABIS) has run into trouble.

The rural affairs committee of the Scottish parliament has called on the Scottish Executive to provide more money to meet outstanding applications.

It is also seeking an investigation by the auditor general into the workings of the scheme.

It is due to be wound up at the end of the year with proposals worth some £23m likely to be rejected because of lack of funds.
