Scottish landowners concede right to roam

SCOTTISH landowners have called for the forthcoming Scottish Parliament to enshrine a right to roam across common land.

The Scottish Landowners Federation (SLF) says the legislation should be introduced after the parliament is set up next year.

The change of heart – after more than a century of opposition – is yet to pass through the organisations committee process and become formal policy.

It was endorsed by John Grant, vice-president and SLF representative on the organisations Access Forum.

The forums Access to the Countryside report said legislation should go further than the current voluntary agreements.
