Shearlings and ram lambs sell for 360gns

SHEARLINGS and ram lambs sold to 360gns at the Hampshire Down Sheep Breeders Association of Northern Ireland show and sale at Portadown.

Yorks judge Chris Parkinson selected a promising ram lamb from John and Michelle McCauleys successful flock in Co Down to head its section and stand reserve champion. It sold for 350gns.

Fellow Co Down breeder Jim Fletcher is well known for the quality of his Hampshire Down-sired commercial prime lambs and it was a group of ram lambs, including three by tups bred in the old-established Cholderton flock, that took the supreme championship. They made the top pen price of 320gns.

But the individual top-priced ram lamb came from club chairman Ken Bowsie, Co Down, who made 360gns for one by the 1997 ram trials champion Rademon Trojan.

Shearlings also peaked at 360gns for a son of Dunraven Robert from Robert Graham, Dromore. Females met a lot of interest with a ewe lamb leading the way for Ian Robinson at 300gns. This Rademon Paddy-sired lamb stood female champion. (Automart) &#42
