Sheet keeps the cold in
POTATO stores get filled and they get emptied. Maintaining refrigerated climates for areas of a store which no longer contain potatoes is both costly and unnecessary.
Such is the problem faced by many growers who must wish there was an effective system to enable them to contain their environmentally controlled areas just to where potatoes remain in situ.
The solution may come in the form of an insulated partition sheet now being marketed by Pirie Crop Storage Systems. Designed to be positioned at any convenient dividing point in a store, the sheet comprises two outer plastic sheets in which two layers of bubble wrap – each enclosed in sheets of heat reflecting silvered plastic – are placed.
Made to suit any customers needs, Pirie says refrigeration costs can be cut substantially as a store empties. Price is £30/sq m.
