SCOTLANDS biggest pig farmer, Arthur Simmers, who went into receivership in August with debts of £10m, is back in business.
Receivers Pricewaterhouse Coopers confirmed on Tuesday that the Simmers family would head a new company called Scotpigs to take over the assets of the former businesses. The deal is expected to be concluded in early December.
The total package is reputed to be worth about £5m and will include the dairy herd, about 1214ha (3000 acres) of land, and the remains of the pig herd, which at one time totalled 16,000 sows. *
