Slow progress in beet plantings

UP to a quarter of the sugar beet crop in some factory areas remains to be sown, though nationally the figure is much as last week at about 15%, according to British Sugar.

"Very little more has been done, which is pretty disappointing," says a spokesman.

Best progress has been in the Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds area, where just 3% remains to be sown. But in the Yorks/Bardney/ Newark and Kidderminster/ Allscott regions the undrilled figure is still 25%. &#42
