Slow start on malting barley
STEVEN BETTS, of Thornham Farms in Norfolk started combining Pearl malting barley yesterday. Like many farmers in the area he is making a slow start.
Early indications on the quality is encouraging. The nitrogen is within specification between 1.66-1.75% and the specific weight looks bold.
“It looks like a good sample. I hope it will yield at 2.5t/acre, and at best 2.75t/acre.”
This will be an average yield for the farm. It is based on a sand mineral soil.
