Sound trade in Blackface rams despite the gloom
BEST Blackface ram prices recovered slightly at Stirling market on Saturday. But prices were still markedly down on last year.
About 1109 shearlings averaged £262.67 each, down £141.17 on last year when 1249 were sold.
The 420 ram lambs returned £199.38 – a fall of £151.94 for 51 lambs sold.
The Herald reports that “kilos, even at the current low market prices, actually mean money”. And that was the type of sheep that sold better than many anticipated.
North-type sheep with heavier skins and greater size commanded most of the leading prices with a top of £6500 for one. The same flock sold another for £3400.
Another sale reported was the complete clearance of 20 shearlings with a top of £2200.
The top bid came in at £4500 in the lamb ring.
