SPII wins £47,000 grant

THE Scottish Pig Industry Initiative (SPII) has been granted a Scottish Office award of £47,000 to launch new husbandry and welfare standards intoits quality assurance scheme.

Lord Sewel, Scottish agriculture minister, said the grant would enable SPII to keep its competitive edge, benefiting all sectors of the pig industry.

He said quality assurance schemes need to be continually monitored to ensure that their credibility was maintained and to enable them keep up with changes in the rapidly evolving food industry.
