POTATO producers can now access the latest information on market data by visiting the British Potato Councils (BPC) new website.
The BPC estimates that 1200 potato growers now have internet access and, of those, about 10% have already registered at the site.
The number of people in the potato industry using computers and the internet as part of their everyday operations is growing rapidly, said Graham Hutt, BPC head of communications.
On the first visit, visitors will be asked to register using their BPC registration number. Following this visitors will only need to enter their ID number and password.
“This will ensure that they can access the extra information available to them as levy payers,” said Mr Hutt.
In the long term, the BPC says the website will probably be the single most efficient and cost-effective way of providing information and other services to levy payers.
Under the main section headings, visitors to the site can obtain key market data, help for exporters of British potatoes and relevant contact details for their local BPC field manager.
Details of the current BPC research and development projects are included along with fact sheets and research reports. An events calendar lists national and regional potato events.
At the same time the BPC will also continue to provide information using more traditional methods for those who do not have internet access.
