Spud firms plan merger

POTATO firms, Greenvale Produce and Anglian Produce, are planning to merge to form Britains largest potato business.

The companies could expect an annual turnover of £150-£200 million, handling 800,000 potatoes a year, if the merger goes ahead. The joint enterprise would control 12% of the market.

Milton Keynes-based Greenvale specialises in packing potatoes in plastic bags for sale in supermarkets. Anglian, of Loddon, Norfolk, is a co-operative of 233 farmers.
