Stevenage green-belt housing gets green light
HERTFORDSHIRE county council has agreed to adopt a plan to build 3,600 homes on controversial Green Belt farmland in Langley Valley, on the outskirts of Stevenage.
Another 1,000 will be built on a Green Belt site in Hemel Hempstead and hundreds of others on smaller areas by 2011.
Environmentalists reacted angrily but the council said it had no choice because urban building was reaching saturation.
