MILDEW resistance to strobilurin kresoxim-methyl (Arable, Dec 4) will be in the UK by 2000, forecasts ADAS.
"The Germans have blown it for us," says cereal specialist Bill Clark. "They used Landmark for mildew control in inappropriate high pressure situations, and now they have a resistance problem.
"North Germany is no distance from us for an airborne disease such as mildew, so I expect we will see resistance in the UK in 2000 if not this season."
Fortunately UK growers have four or five alternatives.
