Stylish heifer makes £920

A PACKED crowd at Uttoxeter saw the first monthly pedigree dairy sale of 1999 at which buyers snapped up all but one of the 74 entries on offer.

It was a stylish heifer from Simon Clarke, Burton-on-Trent, that led the trade after winning the show championship. Scotchhills King Ona, by Painley King and out of a GP dam with two yields over 11,000kg, had a PIN of +£67 and ITEM £70. She was bought by B and L Whitfield, Daventry for the top price of £920.

The reserve champion was Blytheforge Amelia 12th, a freshly calved Llydan Brigadier daughter giving 38kg a day. She was consigned by T Farrington and Sons, Abbots Bromley, Rugeley and bought by T Buzby, Stafford.

Cows in milk displaying strength and production met a solid trade, with entries from the Lambwell and Dovebridge herds of Messrs J M Robinson, Ashbourne, attracting plenty of interest. Lambwell Maggie 19th, a Hanoverhill Lincoln daughter, was sold fresh with her third and was offered with a well-proven pedigree of high yields. She made £810 to B and L Whitfield and Son, Daventry.

Dovebridge Carkia 34th, by Weeton Board Chairman, had given 7200kg as a heifer and was offered fresh with her second giving 40kg on the day. She made £800 to J Major, Burton-on-Trent.

Averages: Cows – 1st quality £769, 2nd quality £623. Heifers – 1st quality £848, 2nd quality £652. (Bagshaws.) &#42
