Success for Burrow duo
FATHER and son team of Jim and Robert Burrow have been enjoying a great run of success at the Lancaster Holstein Dairy Sales in recent months and last weeks fixture was no exception.
Their string of 10 calved heifers, lined up in the stalls at Lancaster Auction Mart, attracted plenty of attention prior to the sale. When it came to the judging it was no surprise that it contained the champion.
Stock bull Joylan Royal Flush has had a big influence on the Burrows Preston-based Stardale herd and it was a heifer from their well known Honeybee family, and out of a Royal Flush daughter, that headed the line-up and made the days top price of 2100gns.
Stardale Honeybee 196, a freshly-calved heifer by Picston Scholar, was bought by * C M Kennedy, Tarbolton, Ayrshire.
Carl Smith, St Michaels, Preston, brought some interesting Canadian breeding to the sale with the calved heifer Calbrett Mega Lacey, which was reserve champion.
• Popular West Country dairy farmer Richard Roberts and his family dispersed their high PIN Bussex herd of Holstein Friesians to a top price of 1150gns.
The herd, based at Westonzoyland, Bridgwater, Somerset, has recently achieved 5000kg of its 7400kg average milk yield from ensiled forage. *
