Summit menu was unpatriotic…

Summit menu was unpatriotic…

We have for a long time been urging people to support farming, buy locally and generally fly the flag for Britain.

The message seems to have escaped the Prime Minister and Mrs Blairs notice when they chose the menu for the 1998 Summit State Dinner for the eight leaders and their wives. Mrs Blairs choice:

Dover Sole – Baby Leeks – Forest mushrooms.

Fillet of Pork wrapped in Parma Ham – Artichokes, Peppers creamed Polenta.

Lemon and Mascapone Tart.

Accompanied by Chateau Latour 1962 and Louis Roederer 1986.

What a missed opportunity to serve some traditional home produced food of which there is endless choice. One wonders if, had the event been in any other country, would British dishes been considered?

So much for patriotism!
