Superlevy looms with latest figures

DAIRY PRODUCERS are one step closer to incurring a superlevy, after figures from the Rural Payments Agency showed that the UK just triggered butterfat last year.

This will slightly increase the volume of butterfat-adjusted deliveries, but farmers will not know whether they have exceeded quota until the final figures, including temporary conversions, are released in June or July.

“It was a very close call and won‘t lead to a great increase in levy if the UK does exceed quota,” said Tony Carver of Carver Knowles.

But individual farmers who have produced milk significantly above or below their quota base will face considerable adjustments to their total milk production.

Those who produced over their butterfat base will see their output revised upwards, while production will be lowered for those whose milk fell below their base level.
