Supermarkets back off from UK pigmeat
SUPERMARKET support for British pigmeat has slipped away in recent months, a meeting in Perth was told this week.
Less than 50% of the bacon they sold was now British. Imports were up 18% in the past year, most of it coming in a sharp spurt from July.
A recent bank report has warned that almost one third of UK pig farmers could be out of business by Christmas.
