Sussex cuisine served in Sussex restaurants

A LEG-UP… local produce gets a boost thanks to a new initiative from A Taste of The South East and Historic Sussex Hotels.

The Sussex Lunch* gives lunchtime diners at four restaurants a selection of dishes compiled exclusively of the countys produce.

Meat, cheeses, chocolate and wines – all identified by place of origin – are on offer under the venture which, according to A Taste of The South East regional director Jo Cummings, will kickstart a gourmet battle for the hearts and minds of restaurateurs. "The restaurant trade has been missing a trick in failing to add value and prestige to menus by sourcing locally," she says. "Millions of people from all over the world sit down to dine in Sussex and yet they are more likely to be eating Scottish beef than Sussex lamb and drinking French rather than English wine. We have a vast reservoir of top-quality produce in the south-east, lets use it and shout about it."

* The lunch is available at the Bailiffscourt, Climping, Ockenden Manor, Cuckfield; and The Angel and Spread Eagle at Midhurst.
